Alexandre de Faria

Alexandre de Faria graduated in music at UNI-RIO in 1993. In 1996, he became Master in composition at King's College London, under the guidance of Robert Keeley and Sir Harrison Birtwistle. Studied composition, aesthetics and counterpoint with Hans Joachim Koellreutter.

Was the winner of the 'International Composition Competition Andrés Segovia' (Granada, Spain) and of the ‘VII National Contest Villa-Lobos'. In 1998 he was nominated for an 'Ivor Novello Award’ (United Kingdom) for best British television soundtrack in 1997 with the movie ‘The Vanishing Man', produced by Ridley Scott/The Mill.

His repertoire is usually performed and premiered abroad, especially thetwo Concerts for guitar and orchestra; the serie of Preludes for guitar; string quartet 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' and the quartet of cellos and magnetic tape 'Anguish '. His concert production has earned him great reviews from many magazines such as 'Grammophone' (UK) and 'BBC Music Magazine'.

Taught composition courses in Brazil and abroad, in particular for: 'Festival nas Montanhas' (Poços de Caldas), 'New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes' (New York) and 'Mikulov International Guitar Festival' (Czech Republic).

Since 2004, works for TV Globo as a songwriter and music producer for many TV shows. Highlight on the soap opera “Caminho das Índias”, 2009.
